TreadmillThere are a number of ways to increase the useful life of a used treadmill but none more effective than simply using a treadmill mat. It is an inexpensive and simple way to protect the treadmill as well as your floor from the many environmental factors that could do a lot to harm your treadmill over time. These factors include dust and the vibration generated during operation.

The immediate benefit of a treadmill mat is the noise reduction it offers. Since a treadmill in use can generate a lot of vibration causing noise throughout the house, a floor mat that goes between the floor and the treadmill is the cushion that absorbs much of the noise. This is a huge benefit for the user as well as anyone in the vicinity of the treadmill.

Noise reduction is only a positive side effect of what is really important. A treadmill mat absorbs the shock of the runner pounding on the deck as well as the vibration of the motor. This physical abuse will eventually wear on the floor and cause permanent damage without a mat to cushion the shock. The reverberation of the shock as it bounces off the floor and back into the body of the treadmill will definitely wear the integrity of the treadmill. A mat that cushions the blows will protect your floor as well as the treadmill.

Some people think that carpeting will suffice for a treadmill mat. That couldn’t be further from the truth because carpeting is another reason you need a mat. The debris in the carpet as well as fibers from the carpet is kicked up into the air when the treadmill is in use. This stuff can get into the mechanical parts of the treadmill which clogs moving parts requiring potentially expensive repairs. A mat could keep this from happening because it covers the immediate area around the treadmill.

Since the moving parts require lubrication, this liquid eventually becomes sludge and will drip from underneath the machine. The lubricant can damage floors and create ugly carpet stains. A mat would be there to catch any drips.
